A LETTER FROM THE ATHLETICS DIRECTOR

Conchita Owenby

Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, in its rich athletic tradition, strives to provide an athletic program that is an enduring source of pride for our school and community, which develops and instills the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork.  We view athletics as a unifying force within the school community, affecting not just those who take an active part on teams, but the entire student body.  While competing at the highest level is a priority for our athletic department, learning valuable life lessons through the participation in sports is the ultimate goal. Building champions while pursing excellence is the ultimate goal of our total athletic program.

The Athletic Department at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School makes available to students a wide variety of opportunities to develop athletic skills and to become involved as members of interscholastic athletic teams. We view the athletic program as an extension of the academic program and all athletes are urged to strive for excellence in both the classroom and on the athletic field. We have seen that physical fitness, discipline and success can help promote academic success, and we expect that our athletes take pride in their performance.  Good sportsmanship, commitment to team, and the development of skills and strategies necessary for interscholastic competition are essential to a successful athletic program.  We would like to invite the community to be an integral part of the building of and celebration of our athletic programs and help us make every competition we participate in a positive learning experience for our student-athletes

Sincerely,

Conchita Owenby
