Clubs and Organizations

  • DECA is a co-curricular organization associated with marketing education.  Students learn valuable leadership skills through participation in DECA.  The Gatlinburg-Pittman DECA Chapter has competed at numerous DECA conferences since it was established in 1986.  DECA members from GP have won on the regional level 33 times in various categories, 12 times on the state level, and attended 12 national conferences where they have received four certificates of excellence awards.   • The Drama Club mounts two productions per year (Fall and Spring).  Auditions  and rehearsals are held after school and are open to any GPHS student. Jeff Ginn is the director.

  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an active Christian community service organization. The club meets weekly for Bible Studies.  Ralph Kidd is the sponsor.

  • The National FFA Organization is an integral part of the Ag Ed program. It makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. Laticia Lafollette is the sponsor.

  • Students with an interest in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park should participate in this organization for opportunities to learn and support our local national park. See Alice Fisher for details.

  • The gaming club was created to give students the opportunity to develop their gaming, teamwork, and leadership skills through competitive video gaming. Increasingly, there are post-secondary scholarships available for Esports players, so this club will prepare its members to take advantage of these opportunities. 

  • The Highlanderettes is an all-girl song and dance group for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade girls.  Membership is by audition only and is led by Bobbi Watson.

  • HOSA-Future Health Professionals is an international career and technical student-led organization.
    HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, post-secondary, adult and collegiate students enrolled in health occupations education programs.
    HOSA is 100% health care! 

  • The Interact Club is a community service organization sponsored by the Rotary Club. Sponsor Trevor Myers.

  • This club honors junior and seniors who excel in academics and leadership. Diane Ward is the sponsor.

  • The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Jeff Ginn is the sponsor.

  • Scholars’ Bowl is an academic team, open to all students.  The team practices once a week and competes in regional academic tournaments, as well as the annually televised Channel 2 competition in Knoxville.  Tyler Williams is the sponsor.

  • SkillsUSA is a national membership association serving high school, college and middle school students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations, and for further education. Billy Ownby is the sponsor.

  • GP’s student government helps students to appreciate the ideas of democracy and aids in student/faculty relations. Council members are elected during a fall campaign. Jennifer Milam are the sponsors.

  • The Plaid Press is the GPHS newspaper.  Students publish the newspaper monthly. They learn the basics of layout and design and develop advanced proofreading and interview skills.  The newspaper features a Senior Edition at the end of the school year Fallon Schrandt is the sponsor.
