Clubs & Activities

  • BAND
    • This course is designed to give students the opportunity to improve their proficiency in sight-reading, musical technique, and performance. The fall term is devoted mainly to marching band, including field performances and contests. The emphasis for the spring term is concert band. Band Director Moriah Yarnall-Waller.

  • BETA CLUB
    • Mission Statement: The National Beta Club is an organization whose purpose is to stimulate effort, reward achievement, and encourage members to continue their education after high school. Achievement, character, and leadership are the words on our national emblem.  Club dues. Sponsored by Bobbi Watson.

  • CHORUS AND HIGHLANDERETTES
    • Chorus is part of the Vocal Music course. The course is designed to give students the opportunity to improve and develop vocal music skills. The emphasis of the course is on performance. Participation in school and public choral concerts and musical dramas are an integral part of the course. Elements of stage production are also included in this course.
      The Highlanderettes is an all-girl song and dance group for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade girls. Membership is by audition only and is led by Bobbi Watson.

  • DECA
    • Mission Statement: DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high school and colleges around the globe.  Club dues. Sponsored by Tana Trentham.

  • DRAMA CLUB
    • Mission Statement: It is the mission of the Drama Club to create a supportive environment for the high school theatre community. This theatre community will strive to use theatre performance as a community of service to both the high school population and to our community in general. Club dues. Sponsored by Jeff Ginn.

  • FCA
    • The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an active Christian community service organization. FCA seeks to bring together students with an interest in two main ideas: their faith in God and interest in athletics. The club meets weekly for Bible Studies. Sponsored by Coach Kidd. 

  • FFA
    • Mission Statement: The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing the premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Club dues. Sponsored by Laticia Lafollette. 

  • FISHING CLUB
    • Students who enjoy the sport of fishing come together each week to explore the science behind the sport as well as the opportunities offered in the community.  Sponsored by Ricky Roberts.

  • GAMING CLUB
    • The gaming club was created to give students the opportunity to develop their gaming, teamwork, and leadership skills through competitive video gaming. Increasingly, there are post-secondary scholarships available for Esports players, so this club will prepare its members to take advantage of these opportunities. Sponsored by Zack Norwood.

  • HOSA-Future Health Professionals
    • The mission of HOSA is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, post-secondary, adult and collegiate students enrolled in health occupations education programs. HOSA is 100% health care! Club dues. Sponsored by Cecilia Ogle

  • INTERACT CLUB
    • The GPHS Interact Club brings together young people to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self in conjunction with our local Rotary Clubs. Sponsored by Trevor Myers.

  • LATIN CLUB
    • It is the vision and mission of the Latin Club to be an organization that offers opportunities for students to practice their Latin language skills and gain a better understanding of the language. Club dues. Sponsored by Greg Fitch.

  • MATH CLUB MU ALPHA THETA
    • Mission Statement: To promote the scholarship in, and enjoyment and understanding of, mathematics. It is restricted to students who have completed and made at least a B in both Algebra I and Geometry. We provide opportunities for students to participate in competitions and to provide tutoring to their fellow students. Club dues. Sponsored by Jonathan Reagan.

  • NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
    • Mission Statement: The objective of the NHS shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage character development in pupils of GPHS. This club is selected by a panel of teachers who review student applications. Due are $30. Sponsored by Jeff Ginn.

  • THE PLAID PRESS
    • The Plaid Press is the GPHS newspaper. Students publish the newspaper monthly. They learn the basics of layout and design and develop advanced proofreading and interview skills. The newspaper features a Senior Edition at the end of the school year. Fallon Schrandt is the sponsor.

  • SADD
    • ​​​​​​​Mission Statement: GPHS SADD empowers and mobilizes students and adult allies to engage in positive change through leadership and smart decision-making. Club dues. Sponsored by Billy Ownby.

  • SCHOLARS BOWL
    • ​​​​​​​Scholars’ Bowl is an academic team, open to all students. The team practices once a week and competes in regional academic tournaments, as well as the annually televised Channel 2 competition in Knoxville. Sponsored by Laticia Lafollette. 

  • SKI & SNOWBOARD CLUB
    • Mission Statement: The mission of the GPHS Ski/Snowboard Club is to provide an opportunity for students to meet others who share a common interest in skiing and or snowboarding. Club dues.  Sponsored by Katie Messer.

  • SKILLS USA
    • ​​​​​​​Mission Statement: GPHS SkillsUSA, in partnership with business, industry and the community, provides opportunities for members to develop individually and improve teamwork, leadership and professional skills through education, training, and service. Club dues. Sponsored by Billy Ownby.

  • SPANISH CLUB
    • It is the vision and mission of the Spanish Club to be an organization that offers opportunities for students to practice their Spanish language skills, participate in cultural activities, and to provide community service for the Hispanic people in Sevier County. Club dues. Sponsored by Zahira Garcia.

  • STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
    • ​​​​​​​Elected members of the Student Government Association do more than just represent the student body to faculty and administration. SGA is responsible for shaping much of the student experience at GPHS.  Sponsored by Jennifer Milam. 

  • YEARBOOK
    • ​​​​​​​Yearbook is a hands-on course where the students and the advisor work closely together to produce the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlander. The students in the yearbook class plan, design and produce the yearbook during the school year. During the course, students gain skills in page design, publishing, copywriting, editing, photography, record keeping, time management, teamwork and marketing. The goal of the yearbook staff is to produce a high quality publication that represents all aspects of Gatlinburg-Pittman High School. Sponsored by Joe Headrick.
