The Gatlinburg-Pittman High School Highlander Swim Team made a remarkable splash at the TISCA State Swim Championships, held at the Allan Jones Aquatics Center in Knoxville on February 7 and 8. The team had an outstanding showing, with three standout swimmers earning spots at the state meet and delivering impressive performances.

Among the qualifiers was Senior Paul Didenko, who competed in both the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Freestyle events. Paul’s dedication and skill in the water were evident as he raced with precision and speed in both races.

Sophomore Karol Shaw also earned a well-deserved spot at the state competition, qualifying in both the 500 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Backstroke. Karol’s athleticism and endurance were on full display as he pushed through some of the toughest competition in the state. Meanwhile, Junior Kuba Shaw qualified in several events but focused on the 200 Yard Freestyle and 500 Yard Freestyle. Kuba’s impressive performances in both events advanced him to the finals, where he secured 3rd place in each, solidifying his place as one of the top swimmers in Tennessee.

Additionally, Seniors David Mendoza and Barrett Jones earned spots as relay team members, helping the Highlander team strengthen its presence at the state meet.

Thanks to the hard work, commitment, and exceptional talent of these swimmers, the Gatlinburg-Pittman Men's Swim Team finished a strong 17th in the state—a testament to their perseverance and teamwork throughout the season.
