In 1998 Gatlinburg-Pittman High School was named the top school in the Southeast in value and performance according to a study conducted by SchoolMatch, a Westerville, Ohio, company that helps parents select the right schools for their children.The Southeast Journal division of the Wall Street Journal reported that SchoolMatch had rated GP as the best school in the Southeast to get the best education for the least money. According to the Journal, GP scored in the 98th percentile in pupil performance ranking and in the 10th percentile in cost.
Gatlinburg-Pittman was recently named by U.S. News & World Report among the top eight percent of secendary schools in the U.S. GP was a bronze medal recipient for 2008 and was among 32 high schools selected in Tennessee for recognition as "America's Best High Schools." Across the nation, 18,790 public high schools were evaluated and approximately 10 percent of all schools in the Unites States were recognized in the report.
During the 2002-2003 school year, GP had the highest number of National Merit Scholars in the state of Tennessee. Total National merit Scholars since 1984 (not including this year's or last year's) is 172 and our ACT and SAT scores are consistently above the state average mark.
Gatlinburg-Pittman High School's 2008 Highlander yearbook was awarded the "Gallery of Excellence Award" by the Walsworth Publishing Company.
In 2012 the Sevier County School System was named an Exemplary School District.
